On the level

Before you turn your living room walls into Swiss cheese trying to hang a painting in just the right spot, stop and put down the hammer.

The Hang & Level from Under the Roof Decorating (urtdecorating.com) can spare you many hours of frustration and unnecessary nail holes.

Designed by Calgary interior decorator Liette Tousignant and her husband Kelly Krake, the simple plastic tool takes the guesswork out of hanging pictures.

Here's how it works:

1. Hang your picture on either the single hook (for up to 10 pounds) or two hooks (20 pounds maximum) on the front of the tool.

2. Position picture on the wall where you want to hang it. Remove the picture and press firmly on the button(s) under the hook(s) to mark exactly where the nail goes.

3. Hammer in the nail and hang the picture, using the built-in level to ensure it's straight.

Simple, fast and stress free. Now that's pure genius.
